My Toolkit

These are the tools I use to keep this website on the road, including my favourite providers for hosting, graphic design, learning and reading. Don’t worry, there are no affiliate links here, in keeping with my Anti-Cookie policy.

A laptop on a desk

I created all the visuals on this website with Canva.com, and used it to design the cover of my first e-book, ‘Four Lives: Legend of the Warriors Curse’. You can even design customised greetings cards. I have to say I love Canva and I’d be lost without it!

Kindle

A kindle, a bun and a cup of tea

Kindle is the e-book reader for me. If, like me, you download a loads of e-books from bloggers, YouTubers and others it’s great to be able to save them all in the Kindle app. However, since 2024 I’ve gone back to buying ‘real’ books and borrowing from the library.

TrishGroves.com is built on Squarespace. I chose it because it’s beautifully simple. As a writer, I prefer to write, not to spend hours fiddling around at the settings, or doing lots of updates (looking at you, WordPress plugins!). Squarespace does the job for me.

Person sitting on the floor in a record store

I don’t know about you, but music really helps me to concentrate, to work, to relax and to have fun. I love Spotify, because it has lots of artists’ back catalogues, and obscure music that I haven’t found anywhere else. It’s great for long journeys too.

Headphones and a model of a chimp

It can be a solitary life as a writer. It’s easy to find other writers in Substack, a new(ish) platform full of fascinating blogs that you can subscribe to. Highly recommended! For newsletters I also recommend Mailchimp and HubSpot.

Woman making a YouTube video

Ah, what would we do without YouTube? I’ve learned so much about life, the universe and everything (to misquote Douglas Adams). I’m procrastinating about starting something on YouTube channel within the next decade, so watch this space!
